Love is sacrifice

The most important thing we are to have as Christians is love. The love of God, which is ‘agape’. This love is pure, selfless, and true as is written in 1 Corinthians 13. It is easy to write but how do we express it? Jesus said that there are two things which sum up our total work, there are no greater commandments(Mark 12:30):
‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength and thy neighbor as thyself’. This shows that Love, in it’s entirety is really death-to-self. We deny ourselves because of the love we have for God; we want to please him, to obey him. We deny ourselves by putting others before us. ‘Greater love hath no man than this, than a man laid down his life for his friends’ (John 15:13). The world offers us things that please us, that make our flesh excited. There are lusts that threaten to take our heart away from God and they will if we give them room in our lives. The word of God shows us that we cannot truly love if we are not putting our flesh under. So when I say ‘I love you’, I am saying, ‘I would lay down my life for you’ If I am not willing to treat you with respect, to be kind, forgiving and considerate, then I cannot profess love. Christ laid down his life for us and we cannot truly say we love Him if we are not willing to lay down our lives for Him. We cannot truly love others if we do not have the love of God.

The love of the world is a weapon on its own
It builds you up and breaks you down
It takes you to the highest highs
But leaves with you the deepest cries

It blinds your eyes with false beliefs
And gives you a sense of relief
Yet underneath the peaceful times
Are sorrowful and broken crimes

One day a giant begins to roar
And reveals stories from before
Till we are left alone to sing
Of the fickle and the false things

True love came down from heaven
And gave to us a blessing
We discovered a confessional
That was love unconditional

Now we have our instruction
Of how we are to function
Where everyone around will be
A victim of the love we give

For love is not a fairytale
It is not a story that we tell
It is living for Him and giving our all
It is being a sacrifice to the world

We are rending our hearts and being stamped upon
Denying ourselves so that they may be born
Again and free from the vices
Of this world, for love is sacrifice.
