Our vision; our hope

Hebrews 12: 1&2
‘Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witness, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.’
This scripture is a challenge to me. It is an urging to drop everything, to have a ‘single eye’ (Matthew 6:22).
When a man is preparing to run a race, he sets everything aside to concentrate on his goal, his hope is in that price. For us, the price is a thousand times more precious; the full salvation of out soul. The scriptures hold many promises and blessings that accompany obedience to the Lord (Revelation 2 tells us that if we overcome, He will give to is a crown of life, He will change our names and we will eat of the tree of life that we may reign with Him forever) but it is this- a freedom from darkness- that is the most precious to me.
That man who is running the race, if he allows himself to be distracted; if he stops every time something calls for his attention, he will never gain that price. Worse still, he might never finish the race.
The road we have chosen is a long and tortuous one. But we must choose now, life or death, blessing or cursing. This is not to say that we will not fall, but we must get up again and learn to move forward, to run faster with newfound wisdom. As we submit ourselves daily to the Spirit, and keep our eyes fixed on that price, we will find ourselves moving closer to each day.

Beyond the words;
A silence
Louder than the whole world
At critical mass

Beyond the mask;
A dryness
Worse than the sight of dusk
In the lonely desert

Beyond their happiness;
A misery
Worse than mere sadness
That we have known

Beyond their creation;
A futility
Worse than destruction
From an outside force

Beyond what we know;
A truth
Worse than the sorrows
That we have been told

Beyond our humanity;
A hope
Better than the false unity
That we had been offered
